Mission Marathon

You can provide a unique opportunity for a group of homeless Christian men to end homelessness for a needy family in Mexico.  In late April, Jesus Place will take its first missions trip to build a home for a family in Mexico.

To help make this happen, John Vernon, Director of Jesus Place, is currently training to run the GA Publix Marathon on March 17th.  We are looking for individuals to pray for his training and race as well as sponsor miles.  100% of the proceeds of this fundraiser will go directly to fund our missions trip to Mexico.  About $850 has already been given by our gathering of homeless people on Sundays at Jesus Place in the model house bank John is holding.

The trip to Mexico is tentatively scheduled for the end of April 2013.  The total cost of the trip will be $12,000, including the construction of a home for a homeless family in Acuña, Mexico, all travel expenses, and the cost of a second build.  Upon completing our build, the family we build for will be funded and challenged along with Casas por Cristo and their local congregation to build an additional home for another family “pay-it-forward” style.  We are looking for commitments to pray for the race, the trip and the lives that will be impacted in Mexico and those who will go on the trip.  We are also asking for commitments to sponsor miles.  You can sponsor a specific mile with a fixed amount or sponsor the whole race by pledging a “$ per mile” amount.  If you have greater ability to give, you may sponsor all 761 training miles.  Of course, general donations will also be accepted.  Your gifts to Jesus Place are always tax-deductible.  Any gift in any amount will be greatly appreciated!

UPDATE: Because of our generous supporters, all necessary funds have been received to fulfill this project!  Praise the Lord!  Mission marathon is complete.  Any additional funding will be used to purchase tools and sleeping bags for the trip and beyond.  By the way, John finished the marathon on Sunday as well.  Prayers are still needed for the trip scheduled April 21st-29th.
